My good friend, Arvinth pointed out that I had been unfair by not including South Indian Stars in yesterday’s post. So,I’ll with one name. This man is world famous. Don’t be surprised if you see a Japanese or Turkish man singing his songs or imitating his style. He’s not an actor, not an artist, not even a legend, he’s a phenomenon – Superstar Rajnikanth. Out here we say ” There’s only one Sun, there’s only one Superstar, he’s our Rajnikanth”
Rajnikanth isn’t that bad an actor however versus his contemporaries he was Chai kum, paani zyada. Here are few of his outlandish larger than life Cinematic moments
This one’s my favorite. He hardly utters a word through out scene and still captures your attention. Only Big B can match that.
One of his most powerful scenes
I always felt his comic timing was amazing, check this out, watch out for his expressions. Cool
hahahhahhahaa…he’s a style icon…despite his dark skin and not so good looks..he rules the movie Industry down south…I’m sure u might have seen or heard abt him via the Indian community thr..
khair i dont know abt rajni (language problem) there is a joke that goes around here a lot: rajnikanth can do anything, even his email address is gmail@rajnikanth.com
No birthday’s today . I just wanted to take yesterday’s post a little further and write about few legendary actors who made it really big despite their serious deficiencies in the acting department. These men are towering figures in the Indian movie industry, no book on Bollywood can be ever complete without few episodes on these giants.
Dev Anand: The “Evergreen Star”. Indian version of Gregory Peck. Watching Dev Anand sway around, jump like a rabbit with his cumpulsive nod of the head is perhaps the most fascinating sights in Indian cinema history.I have always been a huge fan of Dev Anand, love to watch his movies. He was largely considered a sham artist who hardly emoted however, he did extremely well for himself. I like to believe somewhere deep inside he understood that movies are about entertainment and not neccessarily art or skill. Hats off to Dev saab.
This movie was made by him. So, he made sure everyone involved is overacting.
Raj Kapoor: I hate him however, just like his acting ( sorry, lack of it ) he sleep walks into this list. In my opinion he was extremely dreadful, his dead pan, bemused looks irritate me. Despite his disastrous acting skills, he’s one of the biggest movie stars India has ever produced.
Raj and Raj. This merger should have been a colossal disaster going by their quality of acting but, god seems to have planned something else, this movie went on to become one of the biggest blockbusters of all time. :-D
Rajendra Kumar: No actor in the entire Indian Cinema history has delivered as many hits as Rajendra Kumar. Invariably, most of his movies made past the 25 weeks mark. For his phenomenal success at B.O. he was aptly nicknamed “Jubilee Kumar“. If you thought it had something to do with his acting, think again. A piece of wood would have emoted better than him.
In this video he shows of his driving skills, as of acting
Rajesh Khanna: India’s first superstar. He wasn’t as hopeless as the other men listed above. He gave few memorable performances along the way. In movies like Bawarchi, Namk Haram, Amar Prem and Anand ( which is one of my all time favorite movies, I don’t think any other actor of his generation could have done justice to that character ) he showed his mettle as an actor. Nevertheless, he wasn’t great at acting which led to his dramatic downfall in the second half of his career.
Seen here in one of his best ever performances :-) * Cheering away with joy *
and amitabh cant….he just relies on his good looks and sexy voice to pull him through. acting? pran. amrish puri…om puri. them were actors not amitabh.
lol..it’s said that when Rajesh Khanna was at his peak…girls used to go mad for him..they did crazy things to woo him..and I’m talking about early 70s…I dun think those girls were interested in his acting
but seriously tho…he was another fellow who used to get by on looks alone. ppl say he was a good actor, i didnt find him so….rajesh khanna used to always copy him i felt.
the 2nd song- Amitabh Bachchan has done so many songs like that. and exactly like that. so why the discrimination? if both of them do exactly the same thing, why is AB considered a good actor and the other a bad one????
Big B is a legend na..he could do anything..can u imagine any other actor do a Auro or Vijay ( In so many movies..and each Vijay is different from the other )
We all love movies don’t we? I’m not too very fond of them however, I have my favorites. I am skipping Harry Potter series simply because it deserves an exclusive post.
So, here are my top 5 favorite movies sans Potter
The Dark Knight: I have seen this movie more than 40 times and still can’t get enough of this superhero flick. Usually I do not care about acting but the Joker act by Heath Ledger is absolutely remarkable. The actions sequences are breathtaking especially the chase sequence which ends with a huge trailer flipping upside down, jaw dropping stuff ( cheering with wolf whistles ). The Joker guy steals the show but hey, Batman isn’t too far behind, jump from a Hong Kong high rise, clash with the cops, cool stunts and conspicuous lisp makes him & the movie a treat to watch.
Remember The Titans: This movie just got stuck. It’s definitely not a cinematic masterpiece but it struck a chord with me. The movie revolves around the racial divide in America in early 70′s. It takes you through a journey of a coach, junior coach and their football ( American football ) team on how they overcome the race barrier to form the strongest team of that era. A truly inspirational real life story. Trust me you would love this one.
Dost: I was in hospital bed the first I saw this movie. I’m sure not many of you would know about this movie. A 1974 classic has Dharmendra, Shatrughan & Hema in the lead. It’s a movie about good & bad, friendship & betrayal. It’s a simple movie but I keep watching this again and again for Shatru’s brilliant comical portrayal of a thief who is trying to mend ways. Such a shame film makers never tapped into Shatru’s free spirit, watch this movie to see one of his finest performances. It has a profound title track..gaadi bula rahi hai..seeti baja rahi hai..do check it out.
Anand: OMG! No words to describe this gem. A tale of a dying man who LIVES every moment of his life and more importantly brings joy to everyone around him. Rajesh Khanna breathes much more than life into Anand. Despite being a story of a terminally ill patient, it showcases a different dimension of life and happiness. The last few minutes of the movie really get to you. The movie rightly ends with the now famous lines Anand mara nahi, Anand marte nahi.
Andaz Apna Apna: Who said Salman can’t act? If you think so then you must watch this movie. He stole the thunder in this rib tickling, complete ROFL movie. It’s a brainless comedy with Salman and Aamir in the lead ( partly inspired form Dirty Rotten Scoundrels ) their comic timing and performances leave you begging for more. I pity the people who do not understand hindi, believe me you missed something really BIG.
What are you waiting for? Go ahead share your TOP 5 movies.
Can you believe that I have collected comic books for 27 years and I still have yet to see the Dark Knight? I think I need to add that to my To-do list.
Green mile..is a colossal bore..I don’t like big, huge men crying..freaks me out
As of Shawshank..I can’t handle the slow paced movies..Thumbs down to both
Bang on target..I remember watching movies like K3G, mohabatein, KHNH and many more, used to get so impatient..I so badly wanted SRK to die in KHNH n see the credits roll.. OMG..god save this world from 180+ min movies..phewwww
