    India dethrones Australia

Today was a historic day in world Cricket, Australia’s domination over Cricket has finally ended after 12 years. And, it was India who thumped the Australians in an electrifying contest. It can’t get better than this for Indian team and fans, this was an extremely important game for us simply because this takes us one step close to eternal glory. Over the last 2 years Australia has steadily lost its magnanimous Aura and were slowly fading away, todays knock out punch confirms the demise of one of greatest teams in world cricket. Also, it brings a possible end to two of the greatest cricketers of all time – Ricky Ponting and Brett Lee.

Ricky produced one of his most docile centuries, it was something he struggled to earn. His team mates were hardly doing anything special with the bat, it was left to the great man to play his heart out, he did but it wasn’t his day. And end of the day, this was his last innings at a world stage and I dare say this could be the end of the road of his ODI career.

Lee on the other hand left with a bleeding eyebrow I’m sure that would hurt him all through his life time. He along with McGrath and Warne took Aussie to the No.1 position and today he saw was at the other end of the spectrum. He bowling was ineffective, in fact it was in his over that the game swung towards India. Lethal Lee is famished, he’s clearly past his prime. The final boundary of his ball decimated the mercurial bowler. Sun has set for Lee.

Back to the victors, India. We almost messed it up with 75+ runs required and the last specialist pair on strike, it seemed we were doomed. But, Yuvraj who infact isn’t batting at his full prowess along with Raina pulled of a fantastic chase with ridiculous ease, plundering Lee and Tait effortlessly. India deserved to win this game not because Australia were playing badly, moreso because India has the side to beat the world champions.

The win not only takes India to semis it  also sets up mother of all games, India v/s Pakistan. However, for now, Indian fans will rejoice this historic victory. I like millions of other fans is in total awe of this sport, Hats off to Cricket.

Great match. The run-out scares were a bit worrying. Total confusion between the wickets could have been a disaster. Yuvraj and Raina were excellent when they settled down. Controlled batting to win with balls and wickets to spare. Well done.

Ricky Pointing has been part of 4 world-cup finals and has won three of them… Clive Lloyd has been part of three world cup finals and has won two… India started the great West Indian decline by winning the trophy in 1983, Will the Australian follow suit?

Aren’t they down already…even they ranking low in the ICC list..with Ponting n Lee set to bite the dust..I guess they wud slip further

    Ring of Fire – II

Earlier this evening, Dad and I were watching the latest videos of Japan’s recent devastation. There was a news capsule on a possible nuclear meltdown. Scientists are saying that if there is blast, its effect will go beyond Japan. Scary,Very Scary.

We both were discussing in general and then I had my Ripley’s believe it or not moment – ” Japan, Philippines, Indonesia and all other pacific islands are actually volcanic formations, it’s not LAND, just lava “. 😐

At some point of the conversation, I asked  “what are the options for Japan”. Out came a reply which I least expected ”

All the pacific nations should vacate and move to America, Australia and Canada, if possible India and China should accommodate few millions”. Me, totally baffled. I had this are-you-kidding-me look on my face. He continued ” Seismic activity in the pacific is likely to intensify over the decades, if they want to save their people, best would to be to migrate”. I didn’t buy that immediately, a little thought and I realized it makes complete sense. Canada, Australia has huge uninhabited land, they can comfortably accommodate the whole population  of Japan, Philippines, fiji and other Pacific Islands. Dad foresees this idea coming into play sooner than later. Japan is in the verge of a nuclear disaster, where do you think all the people would go? Here’s a possible scenario – USA owes close to $1 trillion to Japan [ Long term trade debt ], so you see, they might ask for piece of land instead of cash. Americans on the other hand will wipe out 20% of their debt and get access to the best engineering brains. [ How’s that for an idea? a modern form of colonization 😛 ]

    • Rajiv 10:12 pm on March 14, 2011 Permalink | Reply

hmmm… Dont know. If the Americans/ Canadian/ Australians having vast stretch of Uninhabited land would agree to this proposition.
I dont buy that Japan/Indonesia and all are not landforms but basically Lava deposited over the years. What is the argument for your hypothesis?

      • Narendra 10:36 pm on March 14, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Moving to other nations would be their last resort..esp in case of nuclear explosion, the atmosphere over Japan would be contaminated for years..People wud suffer as they did during d WW II bombings..

As of the geology part…Dad is a Phd in geology..we can safely assume he has got his facts right 😛

rajiv…narendra wud be right…igneous rocks (its sth like that, learnt it in school waaaay back), which are basically just cooled down lava, which then cools down and gives u islands like japan . indonesia etc. makes sense, theres a ring of volcanoes in that region.

          naren why a nuclear disaster?

Hmmm…guess u not tracking the news..Nuclear power plant is on the verge of a meltdown..which could lead to massive radiation..entire Japan will be doomed, Korea might face issues as well. Read this

It’s the half way stage at the ICC…

It’s the half way stage at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. A quick look at the current standings and performances.

Group A: Before the tournament started, very few would have imagined Pakistan leading the group at the half way mark. Thanks to few outstanding performances by Afridi, they are at the top and undefeated. Australia is a close second, going on expected lines, they would be ruing the bad weather against Sri Lanka which forced them to share points. Sri Lanka on the other hand needs to lift its game, they were shocked by Pakistan. New Zealand is also going strong. Minnows- Kenya, Zimbabwe & Canada haven’t caused much of threat, barring the Pak-Canada game they were mercilessly beaten .

Group B: This is where all the action is taking place. A tied game, couple of upsets ( One was huge ) and few mind blowing centuries. Lot of excitement. Despite poor show by the bowlers, India is aptly topping the group [ The other teams have been highly inconsistent ]. Indian thumped Bangladesh, played out a high scoring tie against England [ that game gave me a mild heart attack 😛 ] and yesterday took out a remarkable bunch of Irishmen. Meantime, South Africa which was expected to top the table started very well but, crashed in yesterday’s game [ no surprise there, only SA can pull off such miracles 😀 ]. England on the other side is playing see-saw. Indies are rocking. Bangladesh are reduced to cats. Netherlands did their bit however, it’s Ireland which set the stage on fire, they produced a thriller against England slamming record runs batting second.

So, at the half way stage it looks like rivals India and Pakistan hold an edge with Australia a close second, trying desperately to hold on their ” World Champions” title. Next couple of weeks may change the table. We’re all set for many more surprises and loads of top class Cricket. I just saw a news piece, it said India has been the most misbehaving team, lot of on-off field altercations, not a happy sight. It’s surprising to see Aussies [ who are largely considered the masters of sledging ] not getting into any ugly scene. Cricket is labeled as ‘ Gentlemen’s game ‘ and I hope teams act more responsibly, especially the hosts.

Trust you enjoying the tournament as well, do write your feedback. In case you aren’t following the world cup, take some time out and cheer your teams, believe me it’s fun.

There is nothing that Aussies gonna prove… They have dominated worldcup and even the mighty West Indies of the 70 and the 80s cannot match their win record at the worldcup… This time around it’s upto the SriLanka and India to win the trophy… Their worldcup victory was some time long back…. they have the best chance to lift the cup given their recent performances and familiar conditions… But if they don’t win the cup, fans are going to spitt on their face for sure. BCCI is ICC and ICC is BCCI now(u know what I mean), so it must be a calkwalk especially for Indian team….Hey dont forget Pakistan, with all the turmoil they can suprise the world with some special performances. Eng, WI, even South Africa have no chance… They will not be able to play well in hot and humid conditions and good performance from these sides will only be a suprise….

Right man. I just have one winner in my mind – India. With other teams trying to discover themselves and OZ not at their best. This the best chance for us to win. Looking forward to the tournament.. ( biting away my nails )
