    Reliving March 1, 2003

March 1, 2003 produced one of the best games of ICC Cricket World Cup 2003. It was played out between arch rivals India & Pakistan. Both teams boasted of huge credentials however, Pakistan looked a notch better, their bowlers like, Wasim, Waqar and Shoaib could run through the best of the best batting line ups. India on the other hand was flying high during the WC, thanks to Sachin’s mercurial performances.

So, on the D-day. Pakistan batted first. They were a strong team and I must say I thought they would win the game easily [ despite India’s red hot form ]. Pakistan’s batting came good, Saeed scored a prolific hundred [ I never understood how and why he was so successful against India ]. Other batsmen chipped in, they finished at 273. During those days that was a huge score especially,  if you have a bowling line up of Pakistan’s pedigree, anything above 250 was out of reach. So, when India started their Innings, Sachin took first strike [ he seldom does that ] and 5 overs later India was speeding away. By the time power play came to an end, Sachin had already produced one of the greatest innings in a WC, virtually ending Pakistan’s chances of a comeback. He fell at 98 however, his exit made little difference as Indian batsman stormed to a famous win. It has to go down as on the finest wins for India at the biggest stage of World Cricket for living up to the expectations of billion plus fans and out playing Pakistan with effortless ease.

Here’s a quick 6 minute compilation of the match.

    It’s a Tie

Just the other evening I had resolved not to talk or write about Cricket in this space, atleast till the World Cup concludes. However, after close to 24 hours, I cannot resist anymore. Cricket is my life 🙂  . There’s no way I can keep away from writing about it.  So, here’s me, reflecting on yesterday’s India-England epic.

I quickly made this video. I sound so foolish, all I have managed to do is blabber stuff at random 😀 [ hate listening to myself, next time I should avoid playing it ]. So, watch it…oops you can’t because I refrained from showing up my “good looking” face this time around, didn’t want to scare you so, I let my voice do the job, which again happens to be atrociously quirky. Listen to this piece of hmmm…

Finally, I got my mom to do a little prediction for the World Cup. Since she isn’t a Cricket expert, she does it in her own way. Curious? Watch the video   🙂

P.S:  Don’t miss her dorky looks and toothy smile, a must watch  🙂

My thought on this years world cup of cricket? One team will win, and the others won’t. Some people will be happy, others won’t, some people will care, others don’t. But all in all, for those of you who enjoy it, or unlike me, understand it, then have a great time watching it.

Cricketing battles to watch out for

With the countdown to ICC cricket world cup in its final lap, there is frenzy in the Indian media and public. This will be the last world cup for many of the games stalwarts, that gives us every reason to go insane. These Cricketers have conquered almost all Cricketing records in their playing careers and set virtually unreachable benchmarks. By the way, they aren’t finished yet, they still pose threat to their own records. Both the leading run getter and leading wicket taker will play their last big tournament ( It will be interesting to watch at what stage these two giants will come face-to-face ). That makes it super special for every Cricket lover go totally berserk.

Cricket is team sport however, with these legends gracing the game the stakes are much higher. Here are few mouth watering bat versus ball must watch battles.

    1. Sachin vs Shoaib – The best batsman in the world against the Rawalpindi express. These men have already provided many a memorable contests but this one is supposed to be the biggest showdown between the greats.

    2. Ponting vs Bhajji – Their rivalry dates back to 2001. Bhajji repeatedly claimed Punter’s wicket with ridiculous ease. Over the decade Bhajji consistently terrorized Ponting with his spin or at times lack of it. Of course, Ponting did succeed few times however, it looks like Bhajji might have the last laugh yet again.

    3. Kallis vs Muralitharan – Everyone’s asking the same question. Can Kallis get through Murali magic?

    4. Sehwag vs Steyn – The South African has invariably come out top but, this is sub-continent, hoping for a better show from Sehwag

    5. Gayle vs Lee – With Lee aspiring to end his career on a high, Will the maverick West Indian gate-crash his farewell party? Lets wait and watch.

What match-ups are you looking forward to this WC?
