iCOOK – initiation to the world of cookery

Once in a while we do something which pleasantly surprises oneself and introduces us to a new dimension which we thought had never existed, today was one such day for me.

    French Toast

On behest ofΒ my friend, Vivian Β I took a plunge into the world of cookery. She suggested I try out a french toast for starters, theΒ recipeΒ she gave me was fairly simple. Before I got started this morning I looked into few videos on youtube and came up with a slightly different version.

What I ended up wasn’t great, cinnamon overdose almost killed the rest of flavors however, I successfully balanced the the sweetness part of it. Eggs, honey and milk were blend in exact proportions to give the toast a lovely taste, color turned out to be perfect, golden brown. The circular shape, jam and the mint leaves added to the presentation. It wasn’t bad at all, mom liked it so did her friends who got to taste it. I’m not entirely pleased with the outcome but it’s a decent start.

    Here’s mom’s verdict

Here’s the open link to the facebook album ( it’s set to public viewing )

Watch out for this space as I shall come out with many more simple dishes in future.

to each his own i spose. it always feels like a waste if i wake up before 11 on a saturday. thats when mum has breakfast ready so there isnt much sense to wake up earlier. it feels like a treat after waking up at 8 everyday πŸ˜€

thats islamabad not karachi πŸ™‚ and even then its not a curfew, just theres nothing to do there. i remember going to islamabad once, and my brother and i were looking for restaurants out at 11 pm, and NOTHING was open 😦 we only found ONE restaurant and that too it was closing time so they didnt have much left 😦 11 pm is when karachi starts coming to life.

havent u heard of the famous paki resilience? how we still forge ahead despite our problems? terrorism isnt a new thing for us, u do realize karachi has been the centre of terrorism attacks ever since the 80s, right? my generation has been seeing it practically every since we opened our eyes. karachi the den of pakistans largest mafia, a political party that goes by the name of MQM. weve just learnt to continue our lives despite things like this. yes we take basic precautions like not go out alone at night, or keep our doors and windows shut tight while driving, or not flash our cell phones around, but otherwise lifes still the same.

and theres another thing. its our faith. muslims believe that a persons destiny is written the day he is born, including the time and mode of death. so the general attitude is, before doing anything, ppl keep in mind that if thats the way were supposed to die, nothing can stop it…so we might as well do that thing πŸ™‚ if we die, thats God’s will, if we return alive, thats His blessing, and were grateful. if someone does God forbid die a tragic death. the family will be devastated, but then they ultimately accept it as God’s will, and that God will grant them the courage and the fortitude to bear the loss. theres a common conception here thats driven into everyones head…God will not place on a soul a burden more than it can bear. and another one: God only places trials on those He loves, to increase their chances of a good afterlife.

when ppl believe in something like that, everything becomes easier to be honest with you.

I was once told, if I couldn’t comment nicely about what was served for breakfast, I shouldn’t comment at all. The important thing was that you enjoyed it.
